How to Write About Yourself on Your Tradie Website

The about section of a tradie website is the part that most tradies find the hardest to write. What do you even say about yourself? Here's how to approach it without making it feel painful.

Don't write like a corporation

The worst thing you can do is write something that sounds like it came from a press release. We are a professional team dedicated to delivering quality outcomes for our valued clients. Nobody talks like that and nobody believes it. Write the way you'd talk if someone at a barbecue asked what you do for work.

Start with the basics

How long have you been in the trade? Are you a local? Did you do an apprenticeship? Do you work alone or with a small team? These are the things customers actually want to know. A sentence or two on each is plenty.

Add something specific to you

Is there something that sets you apart? A specialty you've developed? A type of work you particularly enjoy? The fact that you always show up when you say you will? These small details make an about section feel real rather than generic. They also give customers something to connect with before they've even met you.

Keep it short

Three short paragraphs is plenty. People aren't going to read a wall of text. Give them the key information, make it sound like you, and end with something that leads naturally into getting in touch. That's all you need.

If you're really stuck, just answer these questions in order: How long have you been in the trade? Where do you work? What kind of jobs do you specialise in? Why should someone call you instead of someone else? String those answers together and you've got your about section.
