Is a Facebook Page Enough for Your Trade Business?

A lot of tradies set up a Facebook page and call it done. And look, it's better than nothing. But if Facebook is your only online presence, you're leaving yourself pretty exposed.
Here's the thing about Facebook pages. They rely on people already knowing you exist, following you, or stumbling across a shared post. If someone types painter Toorak into Google, your Facebook page is unlikely to be the first thing that comes up. A website will.
What happens when your Facebook page gets hacked or taken down
It happens more often than you'd think. A tradie spends years building up followers and reviews on their Facebook page, then the account gets hacked or reported and suddenly they have nothing. No way to contact their existing customers, no online presence at all. If you own your website, that can't happen. Nobody can take it from you.
Facebook and a website work better together
The two aren't in competition. Facebook is good for staying front of mind with people who already know you. A website is what brings in people who have never heard of you. You need both, but if you can only have one, a website is the better asset.
Think of it this way. Facebook is rented space. Your website is something you own. Paid or free, a Facebook page is subject to whatever policy changes Mark Zuckerberg decides to make next week. Your website plays by your rules.
Not everyone is on Facebook
Younger homeowners especially aren't spending much time on Facebook. They're on Google. When the tap starts leaking at 8pm and they need a plumber, they're not scrolling their Facebook feed. They're searching. A website with your suburb and trade clearly written out is how you show up for those searches.
Facebook is worth having. Just don't let it be the only thing you've got.
