What is a Google Business Profile and Do You Need One?

If you've searched for a local business on Google and seen that box on the right side of the screen with the business name, phone number, and reviews, that's a Google Business Profile. And if you're a tradie, you absolutely need one.

It's free and it takes about 20 minutes to set up

Go to Google and search for Google Business Profile. Follow the steps to create a listing for your business. You'll need to verify your address, which usually means Google sends a postcard with a code to your home or business address. Once that's done, your listing goes live.

Why it matters

When someone searches for a tradie in your area, Google often shows a map with three local businesses listed below it. This is called the local pack and it's some of the most valuable search real estate there is. Getting into that top three means a lot of calls. Having a verified and complete Google Business Profile is one of the main things that gets you there.

Fill it out properly

Add your phone number, website, business hours, service areas, and a description of what you do. Upload some photos of your work. The more complete your profile is, the better it performs. A half-filled profile ranks lower than one that's been properly set up.

Your profile and your website work together

Having a website linked to your Google Business Profile helps both of them perform better. Google sees that your business has a web presence and trusts it more. Customers who find you on Google Maps then click through to your website to get more detail before they call. They work as a pair.
