How to Get More Google Reviews as a Tradie

Google reviews are one of the most powerful things working in your favour when a potential customer is deciding who to call. More reviews, and a higher rating, means more calls. It really is that simple.

The tricky part is that most happy customers don't leave reviews unless you ask them. And most tradies feel awkward asking. Here's how to make it easier.

Ask straight after the job

The best time to ask for a review is right when you've finished a job and the customer is happy. Not a week later when they've forgotten about you. Say something simple like, look I really appreciate the work, if you've got two minutes I'd love it if you could leave us a Google review. Most people are happy to do it on the spot.

Make it as easy as possible

The fewer steps someone has to take, the more likely they are to actually do it. Get your Google Business Profile review link and save it as a short link you can text directly to customers after each job. Something like: Hey, thanks for having me out today. If you're happy with the work, a quick Google review would really help us out. Here's the link.

Don't stress about the odd bad review

A profile with 50 reviews at 4.7 stars looks more trustworthy than one with 5 reviews at 5 stars. People expect the odd complaint. What they're looking at is how you respond to it. A polite, professional reply to a negative review tells potential customers a lot more about you than the complaint itself.

Reviews and your website work together

When someone finds your website and then Googles your business name, the first thing they'll see is your star rating. Reviews back up what your website says about you. Together they make a pretty convincing case for calling you instead of someone else.
