How to Win Jobs in Suburbs You're Not Known In

When you're well established in your home suburb, the work tends to come in steadily. But expanding into new areas is harder. People in those suburbs don't know you yet, and you don't have the reviews and word of mouth backing you up. Here's how to get a foothold.
Include those suburbs on your website
The most straightforward thing you can do is list the suburbs you service on your website. Not just on an about page buried somewhere, but in the content itself. A plumber in Ringwood who lists Croydon, Mooroolbark, and Lilydale in their service areas will show up for searches in those suburbs, not just their main one.
Dedicated suburb pages do even better
If you really want to rank for a specific suburb, a page built around that suburb works better than a mention in a list. Something like Plumber in Croydon as its own page, with a proper description of your services in that area. It takes more effort to set up but it tells Google exactly what you do and where.
Ask happy customers in those areas for reviews
If you do a job in Lilydale and it goes well, ask that customer specifically to mention the suburb in their Google review. Something like we had our hot water system replaced in Lilydale. That kind of suburb-specific content in your reviews helps you rank locally.
Expanding your service area takes a bit of patience but the combination of suburb-specific content on your website and targeted reviews will get you there faster than most other approaches.
